Ford vehicles are geared up with exhaust gasoline recirculation systems. The EGR system helps to prevent dangerous gasses from forming. The EGR system uses a specialised sensor, called the differential pressure suggestions exhaust sensor. The sensor works to watch the pressure within the EGR system and ensure the EGR valve is working efficiently. If the DPFE Sensor fails, the EGR valve will fail to work properly. It’s necessary to learn to set up a brand new sensor to ensure the Ford vehicle runs cleanly.

Ford DPFE Sensor Installation Instructions

DPFE Sensor1. Open the hood of the Ford vehicle. If the car was just lately pushed, allow the engine and sensors time to cool.
2. Locate the DPFE Sensor. You should first remove the existing sensor earlier than installing the replacement. The sensor is mounted behind the higher consumption manifold. Look between the engine and the firewall; the sensor is a small black box with two hoses and a wire harness plugged into it.
3. Take away the two hoses from the facet of the present sensor. Disconnect the wire harness; push in the two aspect tabs and pull the harness out. Use a socket wrench to loosen and remove the sensor’s screws. Raise the sensor off the mount.
4. Wipe the mount clean with a rag. This will ensure a clean connection for the new sensor.
5. Set up the new DPFE sensor. Place the sensor on the mount. Safe the sensor with the 2 screws and tighten with the socket wrench. Plug the hoses into the new sensor. Join the wire harness; the harness will click on into place once secured. The sensor is now installed.

I changed 3 of the egr system parts and drove my truck for @ 100 miles and the check engine light is still on. What should I do next?

I have mid-pipe back on my 95 GT and want to complete it with headers. I found these used ones in GREAT condition on craigslist but the guy stated “hese headers have no egr port for 94-95 5.0L stang” and “yes these headers will “fit” 94-95 stang and h-pipes. most hot rodders use these headers to by-pass the egr system” What is the EGR system? What effect would it have on my car if I put these on? What else would I need? Gaskets, bolts, etc.?

i am able to read the obd 1 code on check engine light on my car.. it came with code 71 – that is EGR system malfunction.. I looks like it is a complex process to clean or repalce the EGR valve which most people say could be a problem.. I am stuck now and need help from online community to proceed further.. Is it okay to drive with EGR system malfunctioning? Does my engine cylinders will loss its life ?

I can’t afford to bye a new valve right no, my engine light is on. Is there a treatment that I could put in the car for a temporary fix?

The EGR and the cylinoids are good. I had to get a new intake and the check engine comes on. The code for the EGR comes up. Before I take the intake off and back to the junkyard to get another how impotent is the EGR system?

My car is a 2005 Lincoln LS with 54,881 miles, and emissions warranty is 7 years, 70,000 miles. The dealer said this part and labor is not covered. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have a 97 Eclipse that i am converting for track use only. How can i remove the egr components without causing a rough idle.

I own a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant ES 2.4L and after putting a STP complete fuel system cleaner and having my mechanic adjust the screw on my throttle body my check engine light illuminated w/ the P0400 Code EGR Flow Malfunction? I have replaced all the components of my EGR system and still the same code appears, what could possibly be the problem?

I went to AutoZone and had them check the computer with the scanner cuz my engine light is on and they said it was the EGR system. I had the EGR valve and EGR solenoid replaced about a year ago. What else is there??

I can tell you this much.. It is not the EGR Valve or EGR solenoid. And there is no leak in any of the hoses. The voltage to the powered parts are proper as well. It is something more complex that is not telling the EGR system to operate. I know this because I replaced both parts on my own and the system still is not working and the code for the EGR system still comes on (Code 12 for 1994 accord Ex).

I have traced it back to what I think is a computer issue. At a certain speed/RPM not sure which the computer should tell the solenoid to open allowing the vacuum to open the baffle on the EGR valve. This is what starts the recirculation. However, the EGR solenoid never gets told to turn on. There is a ground and a positive feed.. just two wires going into the EGR Solenoid. The Hot is constant the ground I believe is the switch. Basically when the computer wants the solenoid to operate it turns the ground on completing the circuit. I would think turning the hot wire on would make more sense but that is not the case. When I complete the circuit myself meaning making my own ground I can physically hear the solenoid open and the engine shutters at idle like it is supposed to because the valve on the EGR opens.

Any advice would help.
i have cleaned the ground wire pretty well.. i dont have a skematic to tace it back to where ever it goes. if you are suggesting its shorted as in.. the computer is trying to tell it to ground and it never does.. that might be an option

I tested the egr valve by putting vacum on the top and idle changed.I changed the dpfe sensor and still have the po401 code what should i try next.

my 1989 celica st coupe stalls at around 800 rpm
the engine lights on and ive checked the manual and it says that the problem is the egr system. what part of the egr system is it? the egr valve? egr vacuum? plz help thanks.

What and how do you service the Air and Fuel Intake System?

I have a 1999 Ford Expedition XLT Triton 5.4L that has a code that implies insufficient flow for the EGR system. I replaced the vacuum divertor switch and EGR Valve. I have vacuum to the switch and still no vacuum going to the EGR valve. I ran the vacuum directly to the EGR valve and it causes the engine to stall. When replacing the EGR valve . I found what looked like rusty water in the valve. What gives?

The on board computer says it has a faulty EGR valve, which was serviced. The check light turned on few days later after a hard acceleration (up to 4000-5000rpm). What can be wrong with the car?

Oi, I want to know how a vacuum valve works, or if you can, how a EGR valve works. Because most EGR valves seem to be vacuum valves?

I know how the EGR system works and what it’s for.
Would be pleased if someone gives me a decent detailed explanation for the vacuum valve..

Thanks

My service engine light is on and the code says it is the EGR valve.

i want to know if it’s possible to pull out the ecm and change the software to say the egr is ok when the sensor is disconnected. is it possible to rewrite the software at all?
i didn’t quite clarify but i want to know if I can do it myself.

(Parts + Labor) should cost around?

I got the diagnosed code
Code: P0401
- Definition: EGR system fault (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)
- Explanation: The ECH has detected too little flow on the EGR system

When you have a new egr valve fitted does the computer system need to be upgraded?

I have looked at several 2000-2004 S10′s and chevy blazers all with the same vortec 4.3 but why do some have the EGR valve and some don’t? on some of them they are located right in front of the thermostat and on others there is just an empty spot there did they remove the EGR system on certain S10′s and Blazers? if so, whats the point? has anyone else noticed it?

How can i clean the EGR valve? I just need to get it cleaned for now unitil i can afford a new one.?

How do you clean an EGR valve on a 1999 Ford Taurus DOHC? What do I do and what can I use? Will water work? I’ve read a lot about a plunger mechanism but I have no idea what this is. Please explain in the best detail you can how to remove, clean, and re install the EGR valve?

Well I took my car in and had a daignostic done for free and the scanner said I had excessive flow to the EGR valve. The guy who ran the test said I might have a leak in the vacume tube going to the valve or buildup on the valve itself. I’m a computer technician so I don’t know a lot about cars. Is there a specific way to replace this valve or can I just remove the valve and hose put a new one on and reconnect the hose? any help would be awesome thanks!

I have a 1998 Plymouth Neon that runs in great condition however the check engine light came on. When I ran the diagnosis on it, it stated the code 32 which is “EGR System Failure”. What does this mean? How could I go about fixing this?

Engine is 2.0 Liter Automatic. Had full bumper to bumper diagnostics done to see why my car runs rough while idling and stopping at stop signs, was told the EGR valve is getting stuck open or closed and means the EGR valve is bad. And the check engine light is on now saying the car is running too rich and if it’s running too rich I could cook the pistons and blow my motor up. please help thanks!

My car’s check engine light just came on. It’s a 1996 Nissan 200sx Manual with 160,000 miles. I had it checked at AutoZone and they said it was an EGR code. P0400 “EGR function – no/low flow detected”. The car has an aftermarket cold air intake, headers, and custom exhuast.

Is the car going to be safe to take on a 200 mile trip like this?

The check engine light went off today so I took my car through and they said it didnt pass but it didnt fail either–here is what is says:
Unable to retest the vehicle-following readiness monitors were not set-
Catalyst
Oxygen Sensor
EGR system

Can someone please tell me what this means? I am very frustrated!
I have replaced all of my o2 sensors and the distributor……..I also have tried to reset the light………still unable to pass! My car is a 98 Dodge Stratus ES 6cyl. 2.5L
The codes from emissions that were first coming up were:
Catalyst sytem below thresh hold bank one. or something to that effect.

I’m having a problem with one of the three, most likely the EGR since it works with all of them and for other reasons that would take too long to explain. I’m wondering what role the EGR plays in regulator function.
I know what the EGR is and does and I also know what the regulator is and does. There’s a vacuum line from the EGR to the fuel pressure regulator and I’m having a problem with one or the other, most likely the EGR so I want to know what effect EGR issues would have on the fuel pressure regulator because it acts like I’m having a problem with both.

my 95 plymouth is running rich. i figured its in the egr system, or the o2 sensor. but how do you tell the difference between them. theres 2 oxygen sensors(one on manafold, and one one the exaust pipe)it only tries to die at a slow speed(0-15 mph.)
car has just been tuned up, plugs, air filter, oil change. but no wires. and the egr hose is a little worn, but still has a vacuum seal

I just found out that my check engine light is caused by the EGR Malfunction System. What is this? Where can I get this fixed? Can this cause some serious problems for me? How much would it cost to repair this problem? Thank you all for your help!

Check engine light is on brought to autozone said it was egr valve and knock sensor. Just got out of the shop for key needing to be reprogrammed.Someone said the egr valve hardly ever goes out. What about the knock sensor? How will this affect my car and how much will it cost to get it fixed, should i bring it to the dealer or have my brother/mechanic to it. Can I drive it like this? Please Help!

Originally, 4 codes were being pulled however after cleaning out the EGR the system is now pulling those last two codes. I am attempting to not spend too much money on this. However, I feel as if there is a leak or something underneath the car that I will have to get fixed. Any thoughts?
